Rehearsals kicking off…

Cast and crew united for week one of rehearsals, spent between Glenorchy & the Huon Valley. Kelly our choreographer, Jess our stage manager, Mel our production manager, Nick our lighting and AV designer, Bruce, Lex & Anne our actors… all flew in from around the country to join the team from the North West Coast. Axeman’s Hall of Fame

Mid January saw the Big hART team heading off to the Axeman’s Hall of Fame in Latrobe for a gathering of the State’s oldest and most respected bushmen and axeman. We listened to tales of splitting wood, sassy beer, widow makers and faux snakes climbing up trousers! We heard of deaths and champions, camaraderie and solitude from the pioneers of the Tasmanian landscape, bushmen now ranging from the ages of 60 to 100…

We were blessed with a beautiful day as famous Franklin accordian duo Edie & Paddy Dawson played tunes from the old apple shed dance days, accompanied by Dr Dick Geeves on the drums. Once again the Huon Valley turned it on for This Is Living!

Summer BBQ is the Pulse of Glenorchy

This Is Living - a summer BBQ went off at Pulse Youth Centre in Glenorchy where old and young came together to set the barbie on fire, talk skate ramps, play some acoustic tunes and to listen to fresh, home grown hip hop… Check it out!

Workshops by the River Huon

Wynyard Workshops

Beginning in August 2008 a group of older folk from Wynyard and the North West Coast have been gathering at ghostly halls around town to experiment with balloons, wool, slippers and moments of grief of intimacy… follow their journey towards Ten Days on the Island with these images.
